Dear
Candice,
I just wanted to take the time to let you
know that I have always loved and cherished
your music. My ex-wife first introduced me
to you music with Fires at Midnight album
and I must say that it always brings back
the best memories of our marriage. I will
always treasure your music and the atmoshphere
it creates.
I was wondering if you have ever considered
touring the northwest like Seattle or any
location in that area. I'd really love to
come one of your shows but they always seem
so far away.
But reguardless your vocals and Richie's guitar
are simply amazing. I've never listen to a
more orginal sound as yours. I am utterly
hypnotized and taken to another time by your
sound. Thank you so much for sharing your
lives and music with all of us.
Much love and thanks to you and Richie
-Logan Waller
Dear Logan,
Thank you for such beautifuk words... I am
so glad that you are enjoying the journey
that we are on musically and in life as well.
Actually last year at this time we were playing
San Francisco, CA before continuing down throughout
that state. We'd love to spend more time out
there...I have yet to get to the giant redwoods!
Watch the tourdates page on bn.com to see
when we will be playing there... And you can
also contact your PBS station and request
they play our show!If they hear from you,
we will have the support of coming to your
area and bringing our music to you...Every
bit counts...
Thanks for your question!
Much love,
Candice
Hi Candice,
I
have been a fan for quite some time. Your
music is simply incredible.
Unfortunately, me and my girlfriend (we
are both medieval enthusiast) have
never had the chance to see you perform
live (schedule some Boston area
shows please!)
In our desire to see you
in action. I recently purchased a concert
DVD off
ebay. Big mistake! it was a horrible, badly
dubbed bootleg of terrible
quality. I've learned my lesson, I shall
now only purchase official
releases.
But here is my question.
There are portions of the DVD that show
you
performing around a campfire. In these clips,
the girl singing harmony to
you is clearly seen sitting below you, to
your right. But in the concert
clips she is nowhere to be found. Yet, she
can clearly be heard. I'm just
curious to know if she is actually located
offstage. I have seen many bands
that do this sort of thing. (Aerosmith hides
their keyboard player and back
up singer)
Hopefully we will see you
live soon and get the answer ourselves.
Peace, happy new year.
Robert
Dear Robert,
I am trying to imagine which singer you
are referring to. Considering you mention
a bootleg and a bonfire, without it being
an official release, its hard to know what
situation the tape was taken from. And as
I'm sure you have figured out, in Blackmore's
Night's 9 years of existence at this point,
there has been a number of back up singers
and many many bonfires! If I had to guess,
I would imagine that you are proabably referring
to footage that was taken at Schloss Rabenstein
around 2001. The singer who would've done
harmonies at that year was Marci Geller.
We have never kept any band member back
from being seen, though. And have never
followed what other bands have done. I like
to look at our group as a unit...each as
important as the next. So we would not "hide"
someone away or keep them off stage. We're
proud of each band member and they are like
family to us. What may have happened was,
in 2001, Marci took over as not only backup
singer, but also keyboard bass. We didn't
have a bass player for a couple of tours,
but she could manage the bass part on her
keyboard. As we already had a keyboard player,
usually located on the left of the stage,
and Ritchie is to the right, she would've
been between the drums and keyboard, sitting
own behind her own keyboard. She even opened
for us a couple of times. So, she was always
present, as were all of our backup vocalists.
Its just that some of them have done more
than just sing. If they play an instrument
as well, then we need to situate them accordingly
depending on the instrument.
But, rest assured, all band members are
always on stage in full view.
Thanks for your question!
Love,
Candice
Mylady,
a warm "Hello" in these cold days
from Cologne, Germany.
So, yesterday the "Castle and Dreams"-DVD
arrived - and what can I say?? I was surprised
about this romantic and emotional concert.
I think, I missed a lot in the last years!
I saw several TV-Shows with your appearances,
but I never thought that a concert could
be that spiritual.
It was also a big surprise for my wife.
She's from Venezuela and she knew castles
only from TV in South America. So she was
delighted to see these pictures and always
asked me: "Do they really play in a
castle? Next time we must go there and I
have to see these beautiful location with
the romantic voice of Candice live!"
So, I think you have to come back soon!!
At last I'm interested to know, where do
you find your inspiration for your romantic
lyrics? And second: do you read novels of
these fantasy-authors like Tad Williams,
Robin Hobb, Sara Douglas or Cecilia Dart-Thornton?
Thank you very much, and see you hopefully
next year,
Kai-Uwe
the white knight ;-)
Hello Kai,
Thank you and I am glad that you and your
wife were so moved by the concert.
Keep in mind too that seeing the concert
on DVD is a totally different
experience than when you are involved and
absorbing the positive energy around you,
surrounded by castle walls with the moon
rising overhead. It really is quite emotional.
I am still in awe everytime we play. The
incredible love that is eminating from the
audience, the visuals, every moment seems
to be charged with something other worldly.
It is hard for me to describe. But if you
haven't yet been able to see any of the
shows , we are choosing the castles to perform
in for Germany right now and there are some
incredible ones being looked at for the
line up for this year's touring schedule.
It would make an incredible memory for you
and your wife!
The inspiration for my lyrics comes from
many places. From legends, myths
and faerie tales as in Loreley the story
of the siren seen throughout the ages
on the Rhine river or Play Minstrel Play
being about the Pied Piper of Hamelin. But
I also get very inspired by love, and by
nature. Being able to see a sunset through
the eyes of a child with wonder, or dance
in snowflakes or be
swept away by the wind through my hair...all
these emotions can be translated
into lyrics. But its not even just that
one dimensional. It is the imagery of the
melodies taking you where they want you
to go. Telling you what the songs should
be about. It is the weaving of your story
into the story of others and incorporating
words and images that deeply touch you so
that hopefully in turn they will touch others
as well.
I don't often read fantasy authors, for
the simple reason that I don't want
others to subliminally infiltrate my pure
view of my fantasy world and how it
fits into the world in which I live. I fear
if I read too much of other opinions of
that world, I will start to think like them...
so I want to keep my vision true to me.
Love and light,
Candice
Confidential to Sophie. What you said about
privacy is true for the reasons you mentioned.
Thank you for helping me keep the veil of
privacy... Love, Candice
Dear Candice,
my name is Shanara. I'm from Germany, so please
excuse my English...
I'm 19 and a very big fan of you and Blackmore's
Night.
I love the song "Through Times Part II",
which you sung alone, absolutely.
So, you and Ritchie are very interested in
castles!? Have you ever heard of the "Corvin
Castle" in Transylvania, Romania? Or
do you maybe have been there already? I have
read much about this castle and I'm very fascinated
of it.
What do you do, if you got a little avocation?
Do you got any hobbies?
I wish a peaceful christmas to you and Ritchie
and a happy new year...
Love Shanara
Hello Shanara,
What a beautiful name...I wonder what it means...
Thank you for your kind words. It's interesting
that you have found Through The Times II.
It has been quite a while since I have heard
anyone mention that song and I did so enjoy
singing it. I wonder if you heard my version
of Promises Under The Rain which they did
wind up releasing as a single from the Infinity
album.
Of course Ritchie and I are very interested
in castles. We used to visit and vacation
in them before having the dream come true
of being able to actually perform in them!
We are just now going through castles in Germany
to play concerts in this coming year. We have
actually been trying to got to Romania for
some time now. One of our best friends is
from Romania and he has so many amazing stories
about the countryside there. I do hope this
year it will finally happen. I haven't heard
of that castle, but will look into it! It's
always nice when people send new castles our
way for us to see. Perhaps do a show in...
Hobbies...lets see...besides music, which
we play and write everyday...and spending
time with my cats and feeding every wild animal
that comes into my yard... I love doing back
yard birding and feeding, identifying and
photographing wild birds from the waters and
the forests by my home. We go on owl prowls
at midnight! I also love gardening, decorating,
cooking...even sketching. And of course writing
poetry. And Ritchie and I are also very involved
in communication with other realms. I am fascinated
and comforted by the belief in possibility
and I have seen too many things that can not
be explained by physical terms. So we are
always intrigued by the mystery of what lies
behind the veil. Just because you can not
touch something doesn't mean it doesn't exist.
Can you touch love?
I'm also very active in my town and am often
involved with the local government trying
to make a difference here because I believe
that once you make a difference in your own
area, then I hope that positive interest will
spread and make its way across the world eventually.
But you must start somewhere. I also get very
involved in donations for local animal charities.
Recently I started making my own jewelry ...I
love doing things that are creative and show
your own individual expression.
So, yes, hobbies a plenty...
Thanks for your question...
Much love,
Candice
My wife and I attended
your concert in Collingswood, New Jersey.
We were awestruck by the performance. Your
singing was beautiful, Ritchie Blackmore
sounded great, as did the rest of your great
band. We were seated near the back, so we're
not quite sure what happened that made Ritchie
walk off, but we are truly sorry that we
did not get to see the rest of the show.
Hopefully, you will come back to the Scottish
Rite Theatre again someday soon. As an aside,
we were wondering about the giant bear or
rabbit that walked across the stage. Was
that part of the show or was there a breach
of security?
Sincerely,
Michael C.
Dear Michael,
Thank you. I'm pleased you enjoyed the show.
Hmmmm....rabbit? What rabbit? Sometimes
Ritchie's instrumentals are so beautiful
they cause hallucinations... ;-)
Love and light,
Candice
