my
daughter gina lee is a 16yr, old singer songwriter
, for to years we have
tried teaching her how to feel her songs when
she sings them , about three
weeks ago i showed her some of your videos
to see how you sing with feeling, gina loved
your voice and style ,and watched all she
could find for hr,s..
on her myspace she gets little on this topic,
do you have advice for her ?
gina likes when you close your eyes and move
to your song ..
thank you --
ginas dad
Dear Gina's Dad,
How wonderful that you are encouraging her
to pursue her love in music. I think the only
advice that I can give is that music is all
about feel, whether you are singing, playing
or writing. Somehow your mind remembers the
words, your fingers remember the chords, but
your heart is what the song is all about...the
emotion...the spirit and the soul.
That is something you can not teach. But you
can encourage her to be more comfortable when
she sings and plays. Let her close her eyes,
too, and get lost in the song and where the
melodies and lyrics take her. Its so easy
to over think and analyze everything...music
should be a different journey to all that...
But its one she must take on her own...no
one can tell her how to feel something. Once
she discovers that she will be at one with
the song and she will know it, and you will
know it as will everyone else who watches
her perform.
And I wish that freedom for her....
Send her my love,
Candice
Candice:
My husband, Stephen and I, just love you (and
Ritchie, too!). There's no other way to put
it. We've noticed in your photo galleries
(yours and Ritchie's) that you've been photographed
with kitties. WE LOVE ALL KITTIES - (and all
animals). We know that Bamboozler has gone
on to Heaven (so sorry!) but were wondering
about the other kitties. Who's who? In 2003,
we put down our Sir James (22 year old orange
tabby) so we know how it feels. The fact that
you guys are active in Save-A-Pet and the
World Wildlife Fund is gravy - just another
reason to love and support you! When we moved
into our home (10 years ago), we were lucky
(?) to be the beholders of a family of feral
kitties - mum and five babies. On departing
for a R&R weekend outing to Rockport,
MA, we discovered the mum teaching the babies
survival lessons in our backyard...we discovered
this a little too late - to the chagrin of
the headless squirrel! After many litters
(due to our kitty inexperience!) we've managed
to "hone" down the population to
two females (through placement and spading
- luckily our vet has connections...), and
one big male tom And I mean big. He probably
outweighs you! I'm all Italian, my husband
is half Italian and half Lebanese (the Italian
half saved him I always say and yes, we're
VERY good cooks!), hence, whenever any warm
being comes into our home we feed it/them...
Anyway, not to bore you...we were wondering
if you'll be performing in NY later this year.
We've traveled from Boston (Dedham, c. 1636)
to see you in 2003 (Westbury) and in 2004
(NY City). In 2003, we booked the trip early;
unfortunately, my brother-in-law passed away
the night of the concert (we were expecting
it but didn't know of the "when")
and we had to high-tail it out of NY. He was
ill for roughly 11 years with brain cancer
- a quiet soul - you would have loved him.
I did. I still can't hear "So here's
to your, all our friends, surely we will meet
again, don't stay away too long next time
- we'll raise a glass, maybe two and we'll
be thinking of you, until our paths cross
again, maybe next time" without shedding
more than a few tears...
We hope all is well with you and hope to see
you soon! Best of luck throughout Europe -
enjoy! But please remember your fans in the
states - if we could join you in Europe we
would!!!
ox,
Nanette and Stephen Diaute
Hello Natalie and Stephen,
I am so sorry to har of your brother in law
and Sir James...my deepest sympathies... Even
when it is expected it is so difficult...
We are trying to book some shows in NY later
this year, they will be posted on the blackmoresnight.com
website when they are confirmed. Its been
a while so we hope that all will go well and
we are looking at October right now for the
dates.
So, on the "whos who" front...Hopscotch
is my grey Persian and Romper is the orange
Maine Coon who is never more comfortable than
when he is riding on my back...quite a sight.
Hopper is my "zen" pussycat. Very
calming and otherworldly.
As the cats are indoor cats, they love to
watch wildlife, but they can't reach any to
"play" with... Though I do have
a window bird feeder that Romper loves to
sneak up on and punch his aws against the
window to scare the birdies as they are eating...
Hopper just sits and watches...nose to nose
with them...
Our latest experiment is the corn cob wheel
for the squirrels. They have to perform quite
the acrobatic tricks to get the cobs, which
they do every time. So the cats love to watch
that wheel go round also.
So much better than tv!
Hope to see you at the next NY show...
Love and light,
Candice
Dear Candice,
I’m just writing to
say thank you so much for such wonderful
music. You have
such a lovely singing voice, and Ritchie’s
guitar playing is amazing. Did you
have singing lessons? The first Blackmore’s
Night song I heard was Under a
Violet Moon, on BBC Radio 2 one morning
about a year ago just as I was waking up
with the radio alarm. I thought ‘Wow,
who is that?’ as I’d never even
heard of Blackmore’s Night, so what
an amazing discovery!
Since then I’ve bought
most lots of Blackmore’s Night CD’s,
and of course the
Castles and Dreams DVD which is wonderful.
My favourite songs from a singing point
of view are Ocean Gypsy and Catherine Howard’s
Fate, they are just gorgeous. I’ve
also learned Ritchie’s instrumental
Minstrel Hall. It took ages! - but how wonderful
to be able to write music like that.
Looking at your Between
Us letters, do you know where we might get
tickets for your UK concerts in the summer
(especially Reading)? I’d so like
to come and see you. I suppose it’s
a good idea just to keep looking on the
Blackmore’s Night web site?
Take care, hopefully see
you live soon.
Howie
Dear Howie,
An amazing discovery for me as well to find
out that BBC Radio 2 is playing our music!
How brave... Thank you for your compliments!
I did take singing lessons when I was very
young, but it was a world away from what
I would have to get used to by singing on
tour! What an amazing experience it has
all been....and continues to be! To find
out about the tourdates and where to purchase
tickets, click
here.
Hope to see you at one of the shows...and
we'll do our best to play at least one of
the songs you mentioned on the English leg
of the tour for you!
Love and light,
Candice
Greetings and Merry Met !

Candice
Hello Candice!
First of all I wanted to thank You and Ritchie
for amazing music you are
writing!!! I hope you will never stop bringing
magic of your music to
this world!!! Thank You!!! I love singing
your songs with my mother at
home and I just wanted to know whether we
can find the lyrics of Alone
With Fate over the internet or not? Hope
you will answer & hope to hear
a new album very soon!!!!)))))
Many Thanks, Cathy
Dear Cathy,
Thank you for asking
about Alone With Fate. Its funny you should
mention that, as I have just started recording
some of my own songs again and I am re-recording
both Alone With Fate and Call It Love. But
as Alone With Fate was never on a Blackmore's
Night cd, I wasn't sure where to put the
lyrics! But since you've asked, here they
are just for you: Alone
With Fate.
We are currently rehearsing for our April
tour, and doing interviews to promote it
also, so we have had to put recording on
hold until we return. But the good news
is: we have already completed 5 new songs
for the new album...
Thank you for your sweet words and send
my best to your Mom!
Love and light,
Candice
