Between Us

June 2003

"If you have a question for me, enter this room. It exists just for us. A place for you to come to ask me whatever you wish. A chance for us to get closer. Share your thoughts, tell me your story, ask me your questions. They will be answered."

Hello,
I came upon your web site from the link on Audix Microphone's web site. I've known about your and Ritchie's group for a while, but haven't heard much of your music yet. I will soon make up for that when the live album becomes available.
This is probabaly a long shot, but I'll put it out there anyway. I play guitars and mandolin and most recently played with a Celtic group called "Lalla Rookh" (www.lallarookh.com). I've left that band and I'm in the process of putting together a new group. I'm looking for a violinist. I'm looking for someone who can improvise, probably has a classical background and is familiar with Celtic, Gypsy and other folk styles. And if she sings as well and is as pretty as you, all the better.
If in your journeys, you come across someone who fits this discription, send them my way.
Best wishes and blessings for this holiday season,
-Paul Honeycutt
Fort Collins, CO

Hello Paul,
I do know of a great violinist who can play all those types of styles and more! But, he is a male, so I don't know if you'd think he was pretty :)... but he is certainly amazingly talented! Check him out  at

Good luck with all your musical adventures! I'd love to hear your band someday...

All the best,
Candice

Hello, Candice!
My name is Jessica and I'm from Medford, Long Island, New York.
I just wanted to say that the music of Blackmore's Night has been such a big influence on my life, and I wanted to thank you for that. Being very very much into faires, and the wonderful feelings they bring to my heart, I am surprised that I was not introduced to your music until 2000. The effect that it has had on my life is something that words cannot even begin to express.
I had the priveledge of seeing You and Ritchie live at the Patchogue theatre about 2 years ago, and it was a truly wonderful experience that I will never forget. And that is what my question pertains to: When are you guys coming back out this way? Myself and many of my friends would love to see you again!  Every one of them have heard the music of Blackmore's Night and have fallen in love just as I have, so we would love to be able to see you live again.  I would love to hear "I Still Remember"...it's my favorite!
Thank you for reading my email, and I hope I get to see you again very soon!

Best wishes,
Jessica

Hello Jessica,
Thank you so much for your wonderful words. I had such a great time playing the Patchogue Theater! What a great night... so many wonderful memories! The good news is that the last I heard , we will be playing Westbury Music Fair in September- probably around the 19th or so. So, keep watching
www.blackmoresnight.com because it will be posted up there as soon as it is confirmed. Keep your fingers crossed, get your Renaissance grab ready and hopefully I'll see you there!
Love and light,
Candice

Hi Candice!

First I like to say how much I admire your musik.
But there are somthing I wonder. Wich is the language you are singing in the intro of "Mid Winters Night". I would gladly like to know though this is my favorite song over all else.

I wish you and Ritchie good luck!!!

And I hope you will continue to do what are doing. I really love your musik.

Kind regards, Anton (sweden)

Hello Anton,
Thank you for writing. The language that is spoke at the beginning of Mid Winters Night is provincial French. I am told that it is a language that is hundreds of years old and no one really speaks it anymore...sort of a lost language these days. Though they say it is from an area in France on an island that has a mixture of French, Spanish and Italian. The first time I heard this song was from a band from San Francisco called the Terra Nova Consort. The song is quite different the way they perform it, probably truer to its original form. But the title they use is "Marie lei Companion" and the whole song is song in the original language.
Love and light,
Candice

The website looks lovely, fitting for a true lady. Your lyric writing is awesome, truly inspiring. You really get to the heart of the song, and the phrasing and storytelling is done very well. Where do you draw from for your writing ? Do you read a lot ? Is it from writing for a long time that you do it so well ? I wouldn’t say your lyric writing is underrated, but let me say some of us notice just how good it really is. Thank you for the inspiration (The hanging Tree is masterfully done). Unrelated Question: What kind of wine do you enjoy ? Red? White? Champagne?  Finally, thanks for your “Between Us” section of your website, it’s a great idea !

Best Wishes Always,
David Hall

Hello David
,

First I'd like to thank you for all the work you do helping us to promote the band in California...you are doing an amazing job. I'm so glad that you like the website...it is truly a work in progress. I always feel your website should be a reflection of you and I have so many ideas that I'd like to try on here, I'm sure that I am making the webmaster crazy! But luckily he is a good sport and always up for a challenge so you will see more changes getting is even closer to the enchanted woods as time goes on. I am so pleased and very touched that my lyrics have inspired you...It is so hard to say where they come from...I have tried to narrow it down to a simple answer myself but then they come through the back door and surprise me from another angle! I once traced it back to the fact that I was the first born in my family so I don't think my parents were quite sure what to do with me! They enrolled me in every type of class that they could find from baton twirling to singing to acting to dancing to gymnastics (I can still do cartwheels and headstands!) But when I was taking acting lessons, which began at age 4 and lasted till I was 12, I learned how easy it was for me to slip away from the identity I was born into, and enjoyed becoming other characters. At that point the teacher would have you stand in front of the class and have you "become" any thing she threw at you at the moment from a tree in the wind, to a piece of chewing gum to a concerned mother cradling a child. I think that these exercises conditioned me to be at ease letting go of myself and not only acting as someone or something else, but "being" it. Being able to see through the eyes, smell the scents, hear what they are hearing and feel the feelings deeply of "the other". At the end of my acting school years, I began to write to vent out feelings I was having that I felt I couldn't share with anyone else. They came out in the form of poems. So, now , with the years I have had at being a closet poet and the ease I feel at being able to escape from myself, I suppose that is where the lyric writing for songs enters my life at this point. It is so natural to get inspired by an old, gnarled tree and give it a story of her own that she may not be able to tell us for our language barrier is too great...or inspiration may come in the form of an old myth or legend and find itself married to something that happened to me or to friend of mine and ...surprise...you have a storyline for a song! I always find that nature and love are such great inspirations...I am filled with wonder watching a sunset or shooting star...And, of course, music usually tells you exactly what it wants to be about...so then you just have to put the words together and magically you then have a completed song. I think a great exercise is to take an instrumental and listen to what its telling you it wants to be about. To close your eyes and see what visual forms there while listening... It is amazing what you can come out with when inspired!

Oh, and I really like red wine. The dry , woody flavored type- I am just discovering Shiraz now although I've had some great Chiantis and Merlots.

Love and light,
Candice

I first would like to say how much I enjoy your singing. I have been a Richie Blackmore fan for years. I first heard you sing on the last Rainbow cd. I was not sure if I would like Blackmore's Night. I borrowed your 2nd cd and fell in love with the music. The question I have is. Have you ever considered recording or playing live the song Riannon? I think this would sound so good with you singing and Richie on guitar. Let me know what you think?

Hello,
Its so funny that you should mention that. Actually , Rhiannon by Fleetwood Mac is one of my favorite songs and the reason that I started researching the Welsh mythology. Ritchie and I often play this song at parties and acoustic open mic nights when we are there with our friends. I think its the only Fleetwood Mac song he will learn how to play...We do live live version from the 70's with all the ad libs at the end...I love it! Although, I don't know if we'll even get him to play it live or on record...perhaps if he's in the mood to take requests one night...
Thanks for asking,
Love and light,
Candice
