Between Us

October 2004

"If you have a question for me, enter this room. It exists just for us. A place for you to come to ask me whatever you wish. A chance for us to get closer. Share your thoughts, tell me your story, ask me your questions.  They will be answered."

Hi Candice,
I love your music. Everytime I hear it, I sing that song for three days. But I have a kind of a problem. I want to be a singer, but I am very shy. do you know what to do about it? I hope you could help me all the way to get on a stage. When that happens, I will certainly let you know.
Much love, Karin from Holland.

Dearest Karin,
Thank you, my sweet... Yes, I know how to help you with your problem. Close your eyes and lose yourself in the magic of the song. Confidence will come to you, slowly, when you realize how much you love what you are doing. Then you will be unstoppable! But for the first steps, and when ever you get shy or nervous singing, allow the magic of the music to flow through you. To completely take over ...give yourself to the song. The channeling of the emotion of the music you are performing is so incredibly powerful and all consuming. It will take away any fears you will have...but you must trust in it and believe....and only sing what you feel...what you really mean so that connection is easy to achieve. I know this will help you. It helps me.
Best of luck with your singing...I know I will see you on stage someday.
Just believe...love,
Candice

Dear Candice Night, Germany, sunday 11th

How are you today? Hoping fine.
Well, firstly, I don´t know why I am writing to you but I have the feeling that I must do it! (you should know, I know your wonderful music together with Ritchie since 3 days). I fall in love with your beautiful voice, I believe, if there are angels, they must have the same. I trust you, even I never know you, I can´t understand but I have a question. What is your opinion about it: If somebody dies (who you really love) what will happen to this person, will she return to the earth, or just fading, disappearing in heaven or somewhere else?
And do you think you will recognize this person later in heaven? I would be very impressed and very, very happy to read your opinion, it is very important for me. But now, I don´t want confrant you with my personal problems, perhaps you have enough? And if it is so, please feel free and contact me or write me if you have problems, I will be there for you! Just let me know, I can´t read thoughts :-)

I wish you all the best, everytime!
sincerly
fabian

My dear Fabian,
I feel as if you need strength and for someone to hold you now... I hope there is someone there who can wrap their arms around you and allow you to feel some safety and as if you are home. If not...I am sending those thoughts to you now.
This is just my theory and no one really knows, but what you feel in your own heart rings true. I can offer only a idea that I believe...I really believe that the spirit is like a shooting star. When it leaves this plain it travels on with such a beautiful beam, and with such speed and force, yet it still leaves a trail behind. Remnants, memories, a part of the person is still there around you ... for you...always...until you are ready to move on. And even then as the tail of the shooting star fades away...parts of her are always there. The comforting memories. Everyone moves on, only when they are ready and when those they love are ready to let go.
She won't be bound by things that limit us because we are confined to the earthly realm... she is much freer than that now. And she will always remind you when she is around you. A scent, a reflection, a dream, a song... are all signs that she is watching over you and loves you very much. She will make herself known. Be ready for the signs.
And when you do meet up again, and you will, on earth or heaven or any other realm that your journey will take you to...you will always know her.. she is never truly gone. Her love, an energy that never dissapates, never disappears. But I feel you know this already.
Thank you for your letter, your thoughts and your compliments. And for being there for me.
Much love,
Candice

Hi, dear Candice!
My name is Mattias Engdahl and im an 18 years old guy from Sweden. I'm not very good at writing letters or email att all. I'll do my very best though!!
it's quite hard to believe that you answer all emails personally but i'll take youre word for it. It's not often celebrities do that so I hope you'll excuse me if I seem a bit doubtful but i don't meen anything with it.Anyway I've got a question that i'd like to have an answer to. How did the wonderful idea about Blackmore's Night come in to the open.
I also have a thought to share. Philosophy, is probably a better word:
You live a brief period of time and then you'll be dead for an eternity so why not have as much fun as possible while you live.
Don't you agree?
I wish you the best.
Mattias

Hello Mattias,
Your English is excellent! First off -I do answer all the emails personally, which is why it takes me quite a while to respond, sometimes. But it is so important to me to be able to "speak"to the people who enjoy our music and to share philosophies, dreams, ideas or just to say hello. I always feel that our fans are really just friends that we haven't met yet- but we already have in mind that we are like-minded and that is a bond in itself. I express myself fully in our music so if you understand that- then you understand me. And if you like what we do and it touches you, than I understand you. The reasons why may be different, but the overall outcome is the same. A sharing of emotions and of closeness. That is why the personal response is so important.
As for your philosophy on life..I completely agree with the idea of our brief time spent on this plain- but I don't think that death is the end all. Just the end of this incarnation. Having said that...still you should always enjoy yourself fully in everything you possibly can...as long as you are harming no one while doing it. But there are many ways do have fun...it han be as simple as playing with your cat to as rewarding as trying to change the world for the better to as crazy as bungee jumping (not for me though!) I get the most amazing rush from being around animals, being in love, being on stage...but whatever you do give it your all...lose yourself to it and allow it to become a part of you to have the full effect...
Enjoy...always,
Candice

Dear Candice,

Has Blackmore's night ever thought of releasing a Christmas album. i think the band would perform Christmas songs beautifully. Perhaps even write a few.

I also think your music would have been great in The Lord of the Ring films. Anyway of trying to get it in the third film. would be a great way to get your music heard in the mainstream, God knows the radio won't play anything with any emotion.

Best regards,
Frank Aziza

Hello Frank,
Thanks for your letter. You will be pleased to know that we took your suggestion (and, actually, people have been asking us to do this for years) and not only have we written an original Christmas /Winter Solstice song, but we have also recorded our version on 2 traditional Winter songs as well. Actually, Ritchie always mentions when referring to the Christmas songs, that traditional Christmas songs were around for hundreds of years before the church changed the words to make the songs religious. So, we have a tendency to change the words to reflect our ideals. The melodies are so beautiful and haunting... So, we have recorded Emmanuel, We Three Kings and also our new one which is entitled "Christmas Eve". These songs are actually included as a surprise bonus cd in our newest release- Beyond the Sunset- The Romantic Collection along with a 5 track DVD that we recorded 2 years ago in Schloss Burg in Solingen, Germany. So I think that you will really like these 3 songs- we're quite proud of them actually!
As far as getting our songs into films, that's a whole scene I still haven't figured out. It almost seems that Loreena, Enya or Sting are the first to be chosen when they are looking for a "different" type of music. Perhaps, someday, all musicians will be given a fair chance and be chosen for the face value of their music- not their popularity. But that day is a long way off.
I agree with you about the radio- it is sad isn't it? I miss the days of having music make me feel a depth and range of emotion! When it portrayed innocence or magic, or intrigue... I feel these days it seems as if it isn't angry, obvious or based on shock value it doesn't exist. But what the commercial radio and the corporations that run them don't realise is that these musicians DO exist, and they won't just disappear because they aren't played on the radio. There is a strong searching, an underground movement by people looking for something more than what is being represented. It may take a bit more work to find something you like, but if you look long enough you will find something that touches you. And when you find it...spread the word that it is there. That is the only way true artists live on these days- word of mouth. And the people who find you after searching for that "something different" are usually loyal to you forever...Never become complacent!
Love and light,
Candice

Hello there Mylady,

First I would like to thank you for the beautiful music you bring to our ears!

Reading your website, and especially the favorites, I found that you like the song of "Back to France". My question is whether this is the version of Mike Oldfield, together with Maggie Reilly, or that I am wrong at this point.

If it is mike oldfield, what do you think of the other oldfield songs with Maggie Reilly or Sally Oldfield? There are songs like "moonlight shadow", "crystal gazing" and, my Oldfield-favorite "Mistake".This last song is quite hard to get in Holland and is presumed by oldfield fans to be a sort of "try out" for the song Moonlight shadow. Which brings me to some thought of mine, isn't moonlight shadow a song that would fit to go through the Blackmorising-Machine? It would fit you both quite well I think... (Daydreaming is allowed, isn't it?)

That would be it for now I think. perhaps I come up with some other question, and I sure won't hesitate to post it. For now, I wish you all the best, and hope you will continue what you're doing right now for a very long time! And I think I can speak for the whole dutch fanclub in this wish ;)

greetings and kisses from Roel Marcus, Dutch Blackmore's Night fan.

Hello Roel,
Yes it is the Maggie Reilly, Michael Oldfield version of that song I absolutely love! Actually, I often ask Ritchie if he would like to play it when we do our acoustic sing along gatherings for fun but, he prefers Moonlight Shadow (which I also love). We had planned on covering Moonlight Shadow on one of our CD's but that same year someone else released it as a techno version so we decided to put the idea of our version on the back burner for a while.Too many versions of the same song in a market sort of ruins the inital surprise.
There are many songs that we'd like to cover- songs that we love and that we'd love to do, but they it will have to be a secret until we actually do it. I think some may surprise you!
I have heard Sally Oldfield but I must say that I prefer Maggie Reilly's voice- there is such an innocent quality to it. Even her solo projects- Midnight Sun is another wonderful song/album. Although I must admit I have never heard Crystal Gazing or Mistake so I will have to look into those 2. Thank you for the suggestions.
I am always up for suggestions for the Blackmorizing machine, you know! And as for day dreaming- it isn't just allowed- it's required! A necessity!
Love to all at the Dutch fan club and kisses to you too!
Love and light,
Candice
