Hello Henda,
Keep up the good spirits! God bless you as well...
and to all of us...
Thank you for your message. I feel we are already
friends. You know me through our music , which
is my heart and soul speaking. Sometimes, the
people I see whom I talk to only hear the words
from my mouth but don't look beyond. By knowing
me through my music you know me on a deeper level.
Thank you for that andfor that understanding and
acceptance.
Those who understand us through the music are
bonded closer than you could imagine. We are all
connected through understanding and a searching
for something magical and entrancing and beautiful.
Let that journey continue!!
Flowers, moons and love to you!
Candice
My dearest, sweetest Candice,
I'm writing to you to thank you for making my
life seem so very beautiful. Your smiling soul
shines down on my life like the radiant beams
of the morning sun. When i listen to Blackmore's
Night, i get lost in a magical world, i go back
to the Renaissance Faire, in a holy, bewitched,
enchanting place where the minstrels play their
tunes all night through,a fantasy landscape with
jesters, kings, queens, lanterns burning bright
and diamond rings made of silver eggshells stolen
from a melancholic moon... I think melancholy
could be a virtue, so long as it breeds creation.
I mean, difficult situations could make us wiser
and stronger and more capable to handle things
next time we encounter problems. What do you think?
Your voice inspires peace of mind and your songs
have given me endless poetic inspiration. Songs
like "Spanish Nights", "Way to
Mandalay" and "Lorelay" make me
get up and dance. And songs like "Fool's
Gold", "Queen for a day" and "Hanging
Tree" make me
sit quietly under the shiny violet moon and write
poems, as i sing along. Thank you for helping
me out when things got tough and i was left alone
to make it through. Blackmore's Night music has
kept me company so many lonely nights, that would
seem bleak under other circumstances. The first
time i heard your voice was on Greensleeves and
the first thing that crossed my mind was that
it reveals an amazing character of a person with
a uniquely beautiful soul. Your spirit is truly
precious and truly rare. When Blackmore's Night
comes to Greece, i won't miss the chance to meet
you in person, believe me!
May purple flowers blossom along your way wherever
you go.......
Love and de-light
Your soul sister
Elizabeth.
Dear Elizabeth,
What an incredibly beautiful letter. Thank you
for sharing your poet's soul and starlight swept
words with me and the world who looks into our
special place here... Our music is created solely
to transport you to that other world, the one
that exists in which all truth is held in magic,
crystal visions guide the way and candles and
moonlight light up the darkest realm. Be it in
heart, mind or out of your window....
You too are a precious and rare gem, you are so
expressive and beautiful in your writing. Please
never stop- the world need more like you so help
it see the beauty that is all around and waiting
to be discovered and noticed. Too many people
see blindly these days , no one has time to feel.
But the range of emotion you experience can only
be felt when you are ready to delve into all of
the depths as well as the heights.
I agree with your observations on melancholy.
It is a natural state of being that we all go
through. Its what you do with that form that makes
the difference. You can sit in a room and feel
sorry , which is also natural and sometimes necessary,
but the next stage must be the coming together
and finding that outlet to allow the melancholy
to speak, to breathe and to paint the picture
that it must before leaving you altogether. Some
of the most beautiful, soul touching songs and
born of melancholy, as are some of he worlds most
incredible paintings and poems. We are rainbows
after all and rainbows only are breathtaking and
magical when you can see all their colors. And
a rainbow without the deepest colors of blue is
just not the same...You just have to ride the
waves of emotion and allow them t take you where
they will and learn from your journey.
Thank you so much for your letter. You are a child
of the stars...
Much love and pink light to you,
Candice
Hi
Can you tell me what key Candice sings in. Its
just out of interest, as when l singing along
l offten get told l sing in same key. So would
like to know.
Thank you.
Poppy
Hi Poppy,
I had to defer to Ritchie on this one. He says
I usually sing in the following keys: G, Ab, A,
Bb, B, C however I do go down to an F# as in Ocean
Gypsy, and up to D as in Renaissance Faire and
Fires At Midnight.
By the way, my cat, Hopscotch's new nickname is
Poppy so you are in good name company.
Love,
Candice
Hello
Candice
my Name is Harald , I´m from Germany and
45 Years old, I have only one question:
Tell me the reason to do the song "Once in
a million years" - cause it´s a germen
compositon of a german Schlagersongwriter "Jack
White" who composed the song a few years
ago for the fantastic Angelica Milster - I´m
sure YOU listening to the song (can´t believe
that Richie did it) - but how was it possible
that Richie blackmorized a tune like that - in
fact I love that song - but when I realised that
I was very astonished - I saw your show in Esslingen
in the fourth row and it was my third concert
of BN (2 x good ol´"Memmingen"
- I shook your tender hand there - and havent
wash it ´til today)(har..har..)! Thank you
for singing "Child in time" - that pleased
my old soul very much!
Woisch, bei eis en Klengastoi gibts au s scheas
Schloss!gell! (this is "schwäbish)
Love you
Harald
Hello Harald,
It is a funny story about Once In A Million Years
and how we found it. Ritchie and I have a satellite
dish at our home so that we can watch DW (German
television) every day. Imagine me, not understanding
a word but just looking at the pictures while
he tries to translate for me! :) But they sometimes
show the castles and the fields and it is all
so beautiful. Anyway, about 5 years ago we were
watching Boulevard Germany and a blonde singer
came on and sang this beautiful song . We didn't
know who she was or what the name of the song
was since we caught the performance in the middle.
So, we spent the next 5 years asking every German
person we knew if they had any idea who this was.
We asked friends, fans, record company, I even
wrote to the station and no one knew. But this
year, we were watching DW again and there was
a made for tv movie about a lounge singer. And
there she was!!! This time we taped the show,
slowed it down and got the credits and found her
name. Then plugged her name into amazon.de and
came up with Angelika Milster's Sehnsucht. We
bought it and the song we had been searching for
was on that album. Pretty good investigative work,
huh? So, since we were putting out the romantic
compilation , and since that song sounds so romantic
and like a grand fairy tale, like the moment that
Prince Charming rides upon horseback.... I came
up with the words to fit the feeling in the song-
not even knowing what the German original text
was about. And Once In A Million Years was born-
BN style. I'm glad you like our version of Child
In Time- that is always a thrill to do on stage...
Oh, and you may wash your hand now...its been
awhile and anyway, you can't wash away good memories...
Much love,
Candice
Hi
,
My name is Heather i am a huge fan...I just seen
you past show at the keswick theater in Pa. i was
a little disapointed that you didnt sing my favorite
song 3 black crows because i really want to know
what type of instrument use in the begining verse
of the song...Im guessing it is some sort of horn
or pipe...but im not sure but if you can please
let me know it would be awsome because i want to
try to buy it and learn how to play...hope to hear
from you thanks so much
Heather
Hi Heather!
I noticed your email address and wonder if you have
some interest or connection with the Norse goddess
or Nordic mythology? I am so glad that you like
the song 3 Black Crows. I wrote that in Schloss
Waldeck, an amazing castle on the water in Germany.
I was actually trying to play another song on the
chanter that I had with me at the time and the melody
for 3 Black Crows came out. The funny thing about
that song is that there really are 3 black crows
that follow me around for some reason. They are
always in my yard, they even showed up at the airport
in Germany (obviously different crows but odd that
it is always 3- never 4 or 2.) I'm still trying
to find out the meaning behind why they always come
to me. But for now, I just enjoy watching them and
their presence. In Native American folklore, crows
are associated with being sent with messages from
the spirit world. Now, I just have to try and figure
out which 3 people are trying to contact me, I suppose.
But when I see them I feel as if they are watching
over me, I feel safe. Maybe that's why they are
here- to bring me those feelings when I need them
most. To answer your question, on the intro of that
song, I am playing a shawm that was made by David
Marshall. Strangely enough, he was commissioned
to make the instrument for me and had nearly finished
it when he became very ill and passed away suddenly.
His wife contacted me and brought in a friend of
hers to put the finishing touches on it before they
sent it out to me. It was one of Mr Marshall's last
instruments he ever made. It is my favorite shawm.
Maybe he is around when I play it and enjoys seeing
it loved and being put to good use- but it never
lets me down! You can see what it looks like here.
It is the same shawm used on Cartouche from when
you saw the concert. You can hear a big difference
in the sounds by listening to that shawm in 3 Black
Crows, the medieval shawm in Fires At Midnight and
the rauchepfife in the middle of Ivory Tower. They
have very different identities and the sounds will
help you to identify which is which. They are known
as Renaissance woodwinds, and then the categories
breakdown from there. But you can always start with
a practice bagpipe chanter (they are less expensive
to start with and easier to find so you can learn
the blowing and fingering on it) or even the pennywhistle
which is what I started with. It has a beautiful
softer sound and you can take it and play it anywhere!
Then you can build up to the other instruments like
I did.
Best of luck it all! It's so worth it in the end...
Love and light,
Candice
